Another person whose efforts contributed greatly to the three arrests is service station operator Bill Van Buren (foreground, below). Pictured with his brother and business partner John, Van Buren stands by the phone he used to report the robbery in progress at the Ann Arbor Bank branch located across the street from his station. He remained on the telephone to give police a running description of events inside the bank, since he could see from his station through the bank's large windows into the building.
