TRAFFIC SIGNAL MAINTENANCE: Tennie Simpson of 351 Beakes, signal maintenance man for the city's Department of Parking and Traffic Engineering, cleans a signal at Hill and Washtenaw. His is a full-time job of cleaning and repainting traffic signals and replacing signal lamps. Lamps are being replaced in signals every six months to avoid "burnouts" at inopportune moments. The maintenance program began last month and is aided by the city's acquisition of a new hydraulic lift truck (shown here).
