The Village of Whittaker: The homes and businesses which comprise the village of Whittaker lie in the area where the Wabash Railroad crosses Whittaker Rd., one of the two main highways through Augusta township. The farmlands which quilt the surrounding countryside were won from forest marshes. Remnants of the forests remain, however, as the scattered patches on woods show. The community is named for a former grocer who operated a store there.
