In the Ann Arbor schools, reading is taught by both the traditional and the new methods. There is a great deal of work with readers and storybooks. In addition to this, the schools try to show the children in the elementary grades how to use reading, as in this picture where the children read to follow directions. The use of the traffic signal also begins to teach them to obey traffic laws. This picture was posed specially for The News.
