When he wants excitement and entertainment, the young fellow shown in a quieter mood in the above photograph need not join a "gang" of the type which in former days was responsible to a large extent for the development of young criminals. Instead, he knows that he can find all the entertainment his active young mind desires at the "Y" - where he can swim, play a variety of games, read or listen to the radio in a wholesome, Christian atmosphere with other healthy, clean-minded fellows his own age. One of the major factors credited with banishing unwholesome neighborhood gangs in the Young Men's Christian Association, which provides boys and young men with opportunities for physical growth and fitness, for informal education and growth of mind, and for acquiring self-direction and poise. The "Y" is one of the agencies whose programs are made possible through contributions to the Ann Arbor Community Fund, which opens its drive for $55,000 in pledges today.
