This close-up shows preparations being made to drive one of the large steel "shells" which, when filled with concrete, will help support the new Health Service. The ram which drives the shells is being fitted to the top of the section. A finger-like core which is later removed fills the shell and strengthens it during the driving process. Below the section of shell shown in the picture are other lengths of shell and pipe already driven beneath the ground surface, which will be pushed deeper as the work continues.
