PLYMOUTH - One of Washtenaw county's oldest native pioneers, Mrs. Catherine Fitzgerald, died yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. S. Donovan. She was 95.
Mrs. Fitzgerald was born to Mr. and Mrs. James Conley, Dec. 8, 1856, in a log cabin on Seven Mile Rd., said to be the oldest building in that section and believed to have been built in 1819 or 1820.
It was in that log cabin that her three brothers died during a diptheria plague, leaving her the only child in the family to survive the epidemic.
She lived on the farm for about three quarters of a century, moving to Mt. Pleasant for a period of about 15 years. For the last five years, she has lived with her daughter in Plymouth.
She was married to Michael Fitzgerald in May, 1881. He died many years ago. In addition to her daughter in Plymouth, survivors include two other daughters, Mrs. Della Fowler of Pontiac, and Mrs. D. N. Maloney of Toledo, and two sons, Edward and Daniel, both living on Seven Mile Rd.
Mass will be said at 10 o'clock Monday morning in Our Lady of Good Council Catholic Church in Plymouth. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Northfield.
