Argus Reveals New Camera
Argus Cameras officials today announced the introduction of a low-cost color slide camera, known as the C-20.
Equipped with a lens-coupled rangefinder, the new C-20 may be used like the simplest camera by the use of “color-matic” settings.
Dudley J. Scholten, a vice-president of Sylvania’s Argus Division, said, “We consider the C-20 as significant an engineering achievement as the Argus Model A that marked a photographic milestone in the 1930’s as the first entirely American-made 35-millimeter camera.”
He called the C-20 the only American-made camera in its price class with lens-coupled range finder and rapid film advance. Designed for the amateur, the C-20 costs $43.40 alone. A $59.95 price tag includes camera, “previewer” (picture viewer device) plug-in flash unit with batteries, color film and flashbulbs.
The C-20 weighs 16 ounces and is finished in two-tone brown with leather grain and satin metal trim.
The camera may be used on subjects from 2 1/2 feet to infinity. It includes an F/3.5 cintar lens, coated and color corrected, with “click” stop aperture settings down to F:22, and “click” stop shutter settings from 1/25 to 1/200 of a second.
