Ann Arbor Native Dies In Paw Paw
Ellery A. Schmidt, 73, a former Ann Arbor resident, died last night at his home in Paw Paw, Mich. after a long illness.
He was born in Ann Arbor on April 4, 1886, the son of Adolph and Clara Weimer Schmidt. For many years he worked as a clerk in the freight office of the New York Central Railroad here. He also was an insurance agent in his spare time.
On Oct. 22, 1912, he married Ruth Allmendinger of Ann Arbor. She survives. He was a member of the Paw Paw Methodist Church and Les Voyageurs. He was a past master and former member of the Masonic Lodge here. He moved to Paw Paw in 1952.
In addition to his widow, Mr. Schmidt is survived by six daughters; Mrs. Francis G. Dorstewitz of Paw Paw, Mrs. Margaret Reed and Mrs. Harold G. Ristine, both of Ann Arbor, Mrs. George D. Richards of Daly City, Calif., Mrs. Carlton E. Isaacson of Whitmore Lake, and Mrs. Ronald E. Gardner of Lakeland, Mich.; 18 grandchildren; and a brother, Walter J. Schmidt of Ann Arbor.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Muehlig Chapel with the Rev. Ernest R. Klaudt officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral chapel from noon tomorrow until the hour of the service.
