YPSILANTI - Two airline pilots and their wives will open a "trampoline playground" in Ypsilanti township Sunday, it was announced today. The project is said to be the first of its kind in the area.
The couples, Captain and Mrs. Richard A. Welts of Belleville and Captain and Mrs. John W. Taffe of Wayne, are completing installation of ground-level trampolines on a site at Ecorse Rd. and Parkwood Ave. in the township.
Planned as a "family affair," the setup will consist of 10 trampolines available for use at 50 cents a half-hour from 10 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week. Pits dug under the 8-foot by 12-foot nylon "springboards" will provide room for bouncing.
Welts and Taffe are pilots for Capital Airlines, based at Willow Run Airport. Their wives said about $6,000 is being invested in the project, which will be called Ypsilanti Tramp-o-Leap.
