Waives Hearing On Betting Count
The owner of an E. Ann St. barber shop, arrested with six other men on gambling charges last October has waived examination and been bound to Circuit Court.
John B. Easley, 60, of 211 N. Fourth Ave., was arrested Oct. 18 on a charge of maintaining and operating a gambling place. Charges of frequenting a gambling placed lodged against five other men were dismissed for lack of evidence on Dec. 5. A seventh defendant is await., ing arraignment in Circuit Court.
Members of the County Vice Squad originally charged that Easley, operator of the Easley Barber Shop at 117 E. Ann St., operated a place of gambling in the shop. After Easley demanded examination on the charge it was reduced to possession of betting memoranda. He waived examination on that count and Municipal Court Judge Francis L. O'Brien ordered him to appear in Circuit Court Jan. 6. His $500 bond was ordered continued.
