MILAN - Mrs. Bernice G. Hess, 43, of 104 E. Main St. in Milan, died at University Hospital in Ann Arbor Friday afternoon after a long illness.

She was born on Sept. 18, 1917, in Milan, a daughter of Roy and Nora Bortles. On July 3, 1936, she was married to Cecil W. Hess in Elkhart, Ind. He survives. The couple has lived in Milan since their marriage.

Also surviving are two sons, David of Saline and Randy Lee, at home; a daughter, Joyce Elaine, at home; her mother, Mrs. Nora Bortles, at home; a brother, LeRoy Bortles of Milan; a sister, Mrs. Alberta Curry of Milan; and a grandchild, David Roy, of Saline.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Stevens & Bush Funeral Home with the Rev. Harry W. Coleman officiating. Burial will be in Marble Park Cemetery.
