No Word Yet On Fred Pryor
Special to The News
WASHINGTON --State Department officials said today they have received no word on the whereabouts of Fred Pryor, the Ann Arbor man who reportedly disappeared in East Berlin three weeks ago.
A department spokesman told The News that U. S. authorities in Berlin are investigating the incident, but that no report yet has been received.
The spokesman said the State Department first heard about Pryor’s disappearance from a member of his family. The department was told that Pryor, 27, attended a rally in East Berlin on Aug. 25, at which East German Premier Walter Ulbricht spoke.
Pryor reportedly returned to West Berlin after the rally, then went back to East Berlin and has not been heard from since, the State Department spokesman said.
Pryor is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Millard H. Pryor of 715 Spring Valley Dr., Barton Hills. He is a faculty member of the Free University in West Berlin, and has been studying East Germany’s economy under a grant from the Ford Foundation.
His disappearance was announced last Friday by the State Department.
