
Holy Ghost Father Dies
The Rev. John M. Schreier, 58, a Holy Ghost father, died yesterday afternoon at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital after an illness of a month. He was a mathematics instructor at Holy Ghost Seminary, 4133 Washtenaw Rd.
He was born Dec. 28, 1905, in Germany, the son of Johannes and Walburga Henkel Schreier. He was ordained April 8, 1934, in Knechtstaden, Germany.
He served as a missionary in Africa in 1935 and was interned in 1939 and sent to Jamaica where he remained until coming to the United States in 1946. He served in Cornwall Heights, Pa., and at St. Emma’s Military Academy in Powhatan, Va., before coming to Ann Arbor four years ago.
Surviving are three brothers in Germany, one foster brother, John Schmitz of Detroit and several nieces and nephews.
The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Holy Ghost Seminary. The Office of the Dead, which will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the Seminary Chapel, will be followed by a Solemn Requiem Mass at 10 a.m. there. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery near Detroit.
