Another University student, arrested last fall in a sit-in demonstration in a campus classroom building, has been convicted of creating a contention.
A District Court jury of six deliberated 40 minutes before returning the guilty verdict against Peter H. Denton, 27, of 1914 W. Stadium Blvd. Denton, a former rent strike leader on the campus, was one of 108 persons arrested last Sept. 26 during a sit-in at the Literature, Science, and the Arts building on S. State St.
Prosecutor Thomas Shea called five state witnesses including U-M President Robben W. Fleming while Denton took the stand in his own defense and called U-M Prof. Joseph Wehrer and Mark Van Der Hout, a Student Government Council officer. Judge Pieter G. V. Thomassen set May 8 as the date for Denton’s sentencing.
