Sarah Goddard Power enriched community
Sarah Goddard Power's contributions to international diplomacy, education and the arts will long be remembered in this community. And with this extraordinary woman, it didn't stop there.
She was very active in political life as one of this state's best-known Democrats, but early in her career she also served on the staff of Republican Gov. Nelson Rockefeller of New York. She was a strong spokesperson for women's issues and for the welfare of children.
Several years ago, Sarah Power was honored by the Michigan Legislature in a resolution that said in part, “She has a long and distinguished record of public service which extends far beyond the boundaries of Michigan.”
As a University of Michigan Regent, Power worked hard to expand the quality base of the U-M. As a diplomat, she worked to expand the influence of the United Nations and its specialized agencies. As a world citizen, she spoke of the value of literacy and all that's connected with it - power, better nutrition, family planning and hygiene.
Ann Arbor mourns the death of Sarah Power and is grateful for the ways in which she enriched this community and the world. THE ANN ARBOR NEWS
