New forum elects chairman
The Rev. Dr. Harvey H. Guthrie Jr., rector of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, was elected chairman last Monday of the newly formed Ecumenical Forum of Christian Congregations in Ann Arbor (formerly the Council of Churches of Ann Arbor). In this capacity, he will also serve as Chairman of the Coordinating Committee, the planning arm of the Forum.
Other elected officers and members of this first Coordinating Committee are Libby Hillegonds, First Presbyterian, vice chair; the Rev. Dr. Charles Irvin, St. Francis, secretary; Thelma Brooks, Second Baptist; the Rev. Dr. Robert Wallace, First Baptist; the Rev. Dr. Donald Strobe, First United Methodist; and the Rev. Dr. Nadean Bishop, Northside Community. Esther Craig, Zion Lutheran, will serve as office manager and treasurer.
The Forum is dedicated to expressing Christian unity through fellowship, service, and worship and to being a means of communication among all groups working ecumenically. Plans are already underway for a unity service May 22 in celebration of Pentecost, the church season commemorating the descent of the Holy Spirit.
