Haunting Psychedelic Rock submitted by Meginator on July 12, 2020, 5:35pm I’ve always found the Doors’ music to have a haunting quality about it, probably due to a combination of the band’s heavy use of the organ, Jim Morrison’s deep vocals, and knowledge of Morrison’s untimely death. This album, their first, is a great example of that moody vibe, with the organ presiding over even the more upbeat songs and taking center stage during extended solo segments. It’s no accident that most of these songs are classics, blending catchy choruses with a proto prog-rock mentality and adding that piercing organ on top. The results are utterly unique, hovering on the edge of late-60s psychedelic pop and the early stages of what we now call classic rock.

a classic that everyone should listen to! submitted by pmheard on June 18, 2023, 1:58pm i grew up on rock music, so i'm inherently biased, but i truly believe this album needs more recognition. they made genre-bending music that challenged the current state of rock, while simultaneously appealing to the mainstream market. i love you jim morrison!
