Meh submitted by ishhewitt on July 14, 2016, 5:34pm I'm not sure why this was considered good. Maybe it was suspenseful when it first came out? I can't even handle it. It's so bad!

Awesome! submitted by donnettej on November 29, 2016, 11:02pm This movie is proof that Stanley Kubrick is the Genius Pioneer of special effects. He was, and still is way ahead of his time!

The wife and I watched this. submitted by tbbrown76 on July 28, 2018, 4:05pm After decades of hype we were disappointed. The special effects weren't special. The acting was mediocre. The plot was thin. But, when I heard "Hal, open the pod door." Well it was just classic!

A classic! submitted by jessNU on July 28, 2018, 9:55pm A classic - the special effects are the same as today, but were pretty amazing at the time

You don't have to like it submitted by FordAlpha on July 30, 2018, 12:48pm Or even "get" it, but you do have to see "2001"; it's undeniably impactful, and allusions to it are all over pop culture.

Stunning work submitted by timdufresne on August 2, 2018, 4:50pm The thought and detail that goes into this film shows in every haunting frame. Plus one of the best and most haunting villains of all cinema history!

Classic submitted by lstorc on August 31, 2018, 5:56pm One of the first and best attempts at capturing the surreal sci fi experience of idealic space travel in a speculative sense.

Classic (Clunker) submitted by purchasingqueen on August 13, 2019, 10:05pm I just don't get the fanaticism around this film. Obviously dated, really bad acting (and writing). Special effects are lame (although, given the release date, maybe they were good back then). I'm still not a fan.

Best Science Fiction Ever Made submitted by KidBlue on August 7, 2022, 8:22pm This is still the greatest, most artistic and intellectual science fiction film ever made. So many filmmakers over the years have stolen from it. Also, it’s not meant to be an entertainment, like Star Wars, etc, but a cinematic exploration of ideas, and in that it excels tremendously. Arthur C. Clarke and Stanley Kubrick worked together on this and created a masterpiece.

Snooze submitted by SaraP on August 8, 2022, 7:42am I've tried to watch this so many times, but I always fall asleep. I have honestly never made it to the psychedelic ending that is so famous.

It's SLOWWWW But Has GREAT Moments submitted by jgerman79 on August 18, 2022, 9:53pm I absolutely love that this movie depicted space as it is:
- NO SOUND in outerspace!
- Everything TAKES TIME in outerspace! Ships, docking, moving around - it all requires precise movements that require moving slowly!

That being said, in order to get to the good stuff, you need to:
- Skip the first 15 minutes or so. Just jump ahead to the gorillas finding the obelisk.
- Double speed all space travel scenes and anything without dialog - except the end part at Jupiter.

A Must-Watch Movie submitted by Wanping Dong on August 8, 2023, 1:10am I watched this movie 4 times and still feel thrilled when watching it. It explores the relation between humans and the exterior world. In the end, it's like human goes back to the beginning and is just a baby even after time and evolution. It's so mysterious and philosophical. I think everyone will have their own feelings about the movie.
