The wife and I watched this. submitted by tbbrown76 on July 28, 2018, 4:05pm After decades of hype we were disappointed. The special effects weren't special. The acting was mediocre. The plot was thin. But, when I heard "Hal, open the pod door." Well it was just classic!

Best Science Fiction Ever Made submitted by KidBlue on August 7, 2022, 8:22pm This is still the greatest, most artistic and intellectual science fiction film ever made. So many filmmakers over the years have stolen from it. Also, it’s not meant to be an entertainment, like Star Wars, etc, but a cinematic exploration of ideas, and in that it excels tremendously. Arthur C. Clarke and Stanley Kubrick worked together on this and created a masterpiece.

It's SLOWWWW But Has GREAT Moments submitted by jgerman79 on August 18, 2022, 9:53pm I absolutely love that this movie depicted space as it is:
- NO SOUND in outerspace!
- Everything TAKES TIME in outerspace! Ships, docking, moving around - it all requires precise movements that require moving slowly!

That being said, in order to get to the good stuff, you need to:
- Skip the first 15 minutes or so. Just jump ahead to the gorillas finding the obelisk.
- Double speed all space travel scenes and anything without dialog - except the end part at Jupiter.

A Must-Watch Movie submitted by Wanping Dong on August 8, 2023, 1:10am I watched this movie 4 times and still feel thrilled when watching it. It explores the relation between humans and the exterior world. In the end, it's like human goes back to the beginning and is just a baby even after time and evolution. It's so mysterious and philosophical. I think everyone will have their own feelings about the movie.
