The Masterpiece submitted by breaking_glass on September 22, 2010, 2:25pm Jean Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast may possibly be the most beautiful film ever made. The classic fairytale is brought to life with gorgeous sets and costumes, pitch-perfect performers, and an all-together otherworldly look to the film. Disembodied hands float candelabras, statues follow with their eyes, and the Beast's make-up is like nothing you've ever seen.

I recently read Jean Cocteau's diary of the film, and it's hard to believe that such a beautiful film was fraught with so many disasters, diligently recounted in the diary entries. Cocteau himself was in utter misery while filming, suffering from severe skin problems and illness, eventually ending up in the hospital mid-production. Other actors fell ill as well, and the film crew struggled with constant electrical and lighting problems. Blood, sweat and tears went into this one, which somehow makes me love it even more. It sure was a labor of love for Cocteau.

beauty/belle & beast/bete submitted by alexcantu on August 2, 2011, 6:18pm ooh la la. i am a seven year old kid. it was scarier than the one in English. I didn't like the costume of the beast. It was kind of like a lion walking up straight. it was kind of weird that his collar was like an open fan. I thought that the beast was just kind of creepy when he said he was always going to ask if he could marry belle. I don't think some kids would like it because there's some stuff they might not understand.
