COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Beautiful Animation submitted by Enzy on May 5, 2015, 2:34pm If you liked Secret of Kells, then there's a good chance you will also enjoy Song of the Sea. The animation of both utilize the beauty of watercolor and are very artistic. The beauty of both films is not only in the rich colors and designs of the animation, but also that both stories are steeped in magic and folklore. With fun, Celtic melodies sprinkled throughout, the films have a touch of lightheartedness intermixed with the deeply stirring beauty of the mythology. The brother-sister relationship in Song of the Sea is also very touching and creates the opportunity for some sweet moments. There is a part where the kids visit the owl witch that would have terrified me as a child and is a little miyazaki-esc. But that is not a bad thing. Overall this is a wonderful film and is just as much a piece of art as it is entertainment.

Dreamy submitted by amykmilligan on June 17, 2015, 6:07pm This movie was dreamy and beautiful, yet I found it a bit more relatable than Secret of Kells. We watched it with our three kids, aged 7-9 and it was appropriate for all three and engaged them all deeply. It's a great story of a brother rescuing his sister and as charming as it is visually appealing. I recommend it highly for families.

Sweet movie submitted by lulumama on July 1, 2015, 10:30am Beautiful & sweet. My 8 & 5 yo boys enjoyed it.

Folklore submitted by mrajraspn08 on August 16, 2016, 12:10pm Didn't much care for the movie, but I'm a huge folklore buff, and this was chockfull of it. Read a little about the culture and the tales the movie is based on, I guarantee it will add a new depth of appreciation.

Gorgeous submitted by terpsichore17 on July 26, 2018, 10:10am Like any story about selkies, it's terribly beautiful and awfully bittersweet.

Gorgeous music, gorgeous animation, adorable brother-and-sister relationship.

Song of the Sea submitted by SBNB on August 17, 2018, 2:56pm This is a beautiful movie with beautiful music. My five year old and I both enjoyed it. There are selkies, fairies, and other mythical creatures. It was a little sad towards the end, but that was part of the charm of the story.

Song of the Sea submitted by lstorc on July 2, 2019, 4:20pm Song of the Sea is a beautiful story about family and belonging. The artwork and music are exquisite!
