Confessions of a Comma Queen -- Spelling is for weirdos -- That witch! -- The problem of Heesh -- Between you and me -- Comma comma comma comma, chameleon -- Who put the hyphen in Moby-Dick? -- A dash, a semicolon, and a colon walk into a bar -- What's up with the apostrophe -- F*ck this sh*t -- Ballad of a pencil junkie -- The million-dollar copy editor -- Appendix. Some books I have found particularly helpful.
A New Yorker copy veteran presents laugh-out-loud descriptions of some of the most common and vexing errors in language and usage, drawing on examples from classic literature and pop culture while sharing anecdotes from her work with celebrated writers.

Fun with Punctuation submitted by sdunav on June 12, 2015, 7:43pm Delightful memoir about a woman who grew up in Cleveland in the 50's-60's - her first job was as a "foot-checker" at a public pool there, looking for athlete's foot before people were allowed into the pool! - who went on to be an editor at The New Yorker. As you might expect, there is a lot about grammar and punctuation and dictionaries and editors in general and the history of all of these things. But it's also funny and enlightening and a quick read.

More about her life than about grammar submitted by willow on August 28, 2016, 6:14pm This is not a book about punctuation or grammar, exactly. It is a book about Mary Norris, and times when language has been a factor in her life, for example, her story about her relationship with her brother who is a transsexual (her terms) and the emotional impact of a gendered pronoun. The book was not quite what I expected.
