Friday Five: Andrew WK, Ki5, DJ FLP, Villin and Notorious_Vonna C, Emilie Lin

MUSIC FRIDAY FIVE

Friday Five, February 19, 2021 with Andrew WK, Ki5, DJ FLP, Villin & Notorious_Vonna, and Emilie Lin

Friday Five is where we highlight music by Washtenaw County-associated artists.

This week features symphonic metal blasted by Andrew WK, R&B romanticism via Ki5, skittering electronica courtesy DJ FLP, hip-hop from Villin and Notorious_Vonna C, and contemplative solo piano by Emilie Lin.

Andrew WK, "Babylon"
Ann Arbor native and Community High grad Andrew WK unleashed a new single for a new label, Napalm Records, and it's an over-the-top galloping metal jammer with symphonic flourishes.

Ki5, "More Than Anything
Ypsilanti'S Ki5 dropped a romantic Valentine's Day R&B single that continues his run of sweet earworms created by sampling and looping his voice. Read our interview with him here and find more links for Ki5 here.

DJ FLP, Alternate Timeline
Since we last highlighted DJ FLP's prolific output last October, the Ann Arbor producer has released the collaborative Nasak EP and this six-song mini album. His electronic music skitters and scampers in a ways that make them great headphone listens even if you can feel their loose associations to techno.

Villin and Notorious_Vonna C, VillinTines Day
This R&B-tinged hip-hop album by Flight Team artists Villin and Notorious_Vonna C doubles as a showcase of local all-stars since it also features King Micah the Infamous, Drew Denton, Mo Grease, Dre Dav, and David Bingham.

Emilie Lin, Love Endures
Ann Arbor pianist Emilie Lin composes the most earnest music, all with the intention of delivering joy and inspiration to her listeners. These nine songs, including an arrangement of the adagio section of Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 8 in C Minor, are meant for quiet contemplation. You can listen to Love Endures on a variety of streaming services here.
