The Radar tracks new music by Washtenaw County-associated artists and labels.

Kozora Quartet
Live
Genre: Jazz fusion
Location: Washtenaw County
Notes: Manchester's Ken Kozora might be best known as a trumpeter and creator of Horns for the Holidays charity program, but he also plays percussion, keyboards, and, on this collection of live recordings, bass. It's also the instrument on which he composed these funky world-jazz jams, performed alongside fellow area locals Paul Vornhagen (reeds), Robert Spalding Newcomb (guitars, sitar), John Churchville (drums), and Enrique "Jito" Pardo (drums). Some of the compositions go back to the 1980s but all the concert recordings come from 2024-2025.

T. Greens
"Vortex"
Genre: Funky fusion
Location: Ann Arbor
Notes: Fundamental Sound Co. and Fun Fest honcho Taylor Greenshields picked up the drumsticks and laid down some booty-shaking grooves with Dylan Risinger (bass), Jordan Smith (organ), Ian Griffiths (guitar), and Joey LeClerc (tenor sax).

Otherseas
Goodbye Seas
Siris film
Genre: Ambient techno
Location: Former Ann Arbor-ite
Notes: Tom Maher lives in Chicago now, but he released some beautiful mixes and music while at U-M. This collection—"5 hours of music; 60 old songs and 2 new songs"—might be his swansong under the Otherseas moniker, but let's hope he continues creating. The physical edition of the release also includes a full 'zine, which you can read digitally here. He also recently released an experimental short film, Siris, which is subtitled, "A film for stereo sound systems."
