Description

Plaque by the mural:

'The Global Graffiti Project was made possible by a partnership between the Institute for the Humanities, the Modern Greek Program, and the Department of History of Art as part of the Institute for the Humanities 2016 - 2017 Year of Humanities and Public Policy, with generous support from Mr. Sam Roumanis.  By engaging the campus and the Ann Arbor community with national and international artists, the project - and the resulting murals - offer a global perspective of art within the public sphere, and its critical role in effecting social change.  This mural is a double meditation on crisis in the automobile citv of Detroit and the classical city of Athens. The seated figure is reflecting on their fate.'
