In 2022, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant", making it the first narrative feature from the 2010s chosen to be in the registry.

An enduring camp classic, But I'm a Cheerleader is a colorful and heartfelt journey into queerness. Skewering the very notion of conversion therapy, the film is a comedy with a singular, evocative perspective that has provoked thought and laughter for the past 20 years. It ought to be a gay ol' time!

This 85-minute film is rated R.

Join AADL for a screening of The Unabridged Mrs. Vera's Daybook.

The Unabridged Mrs. Vera's Daybook tells a story of activism, art, and love, through the work of David Faulk and Michael Johnstone, two San Francisco artists and long-term AIDS survivors. During one of the darkest periods in US History, the two men decide to bring joy and color to a broken community. Taking to the streets bedecked in glitter, baubles, and recycled plastic, the two form a cadre of colorful kindred spirits they call Verasphere.

This 80-minute documentary is rated PG.

AADL welcomes local Drag Kings for a night of performance, featuring a panel discussion about the art form, drag king culture, and queer celebration.

Transgender Day of Visibility is on March 31st, and we are making a zine full of art and writing to celebrate! Come to the library to make art and/or writing to submit for the AADL TDoV '24 Zine. We'll supply the paper and tools, and will have art from previous years' zines projected on a screen in case you need an idea of what to do. You don't have to make art at this event to submit a piece to the zine, but if you don't have the art supplies to make what you want - come to the library!

Join the Jim Toy Community Center's OUTreach and the Outlaws at the University of Michigan for a free clinic dedicated to addressing the challenges of name changes for transgender and gender nonconforming people.They will provide details on how to legally change your name and gender marker in the state of Michigan. Information on how to update your Social Security, Passport, Driver’s License, and Birth Certificate will also be available.

For this year's Trans Day of Visibility, join us for an interview with artist Jamie John! Jamie John is a two-spirit trans and queer Anishinaabe and Korean-American multi-disciplinary artist. We will discuss their works as they relate to his journey of self-exploration and celebration of rich multi-cultural heritage.

Game designer Avery Alder opens this talk with a question: Whose politics and experiences are we building our games around? After examining the importance of queer representation in games, this keynote will take a critical look at why representation isn’t enough. From there, Avery will explore how game mechanics and systems can be queered, subverting common structural assumptions in order to reflect a greater range of lived experiences. Examples will be drawn from the past two decades of independent tabletop roleplaying game design.

Cody Daigle-Orians (they/them) is a writer and asexuality educator based in Columbus, OH. They are the creator of Ace Dad Advice, a social media-based asexuality education project designed to support people exploring asexuality or questioning their sexual orientation, and the author of I Am Ace: Advice on Living Your Best Asexual Life. They are also a contributing author in the upcoming fiction anthology Being Ace: An Anthology of Queer, Trans, Femme, and Disabled Stories of Asexual Love and Connection.
