AADL welcomes Keith Taylor for the launch of his new collection of selected poems, All the Time You Want: Selected Poems 1977-2017. In this collection, Taylor, acclaimed poet of the Upper Midwest and the author of eighteen celebrated collections, delivers a stunning medley of his most lasting work: poems that remain vivid in the imagination, that have achieved a life beyond their first appearance on the page.

Ethnographer Marcia Stegath Dorr traveled to the Sultanate of Oman in the 1980s and encountered a timeless culture virtually unknown to the rest of the world. Join her to learn about Oman’s kaleidoscopic food culture, from cosmopolitan souqs to desert camps, mountain terraces and coastal plantations – and encounter authentic traditional recipes along the way.

Curtis Glatter will discuss his latest release with Troikastra. Troikastra is a cross country music trio of Michigan based drummer/electronic musician Curtis Glatter, turntable legend Tenshun and drummer/producer Nathan Hubbard. The trio creates kaliedoscopic music from samples, 16rpm turntables and modular synths. For fans of musique concrete, plunderphonics and skipping exotica records.

Join us for a celebration of the French Dukes! Author Debbie Taylor will kick things off with a reading of her picture book, Step It Up! The French Dukes! Set in 1960's Ann Arbor, Kenny’s story is inspired by the real-life French Dukes Precision Drill Team. Members of the original team will talk with Debbie about their experience, and then do a short performance. They will also share what's happening with young community members today! Books will be for sale and Debbie Taylor will be available to sign them.

Jienan Yuan performs music from his new album 'Your Wave Persists', that serves not only as an act of remembrance for loved ones lost, but also as an exploration on the nature of memory itself. This event features Kyunghee Kim and Sherina Rodriguez Sharpe as readers, with an opening set by Joo Won Park.

Have a look into the writing of Jeffers’ self-published memoir, Can You Hear the Music?, which documents her diagnosis with and recovery from bipolar disorder as well as PTSD from the Virginia Tech shooting while she was on the tenure track at the University of Michigan.

Bob Krzewinski and Bill Shea of Veterans For Peace-93 will discuss Martin Luther King Jr.'s views on militarism as he defined them in the 1960’s and project how he might respond to today’s current events.

A central aspect of the culture and lifestyle of the 1920s and 30s was the creation and consumption of food.  You could exist in an Art Deco world where everything from the soup to the nuts was inflected with this style. As a pervasive mode, Deco shaped a total environment and eating was an integral part of this. Tableware, of course, was a significant feature. The lecture will focus upon some of the more striking results of this encounter.
