Coding Playground

Drop-in, hang out, and play around with code! We will provide basic instruction and support to build apps using BitsBox, or you can work on your own project in your preferred language (Scratch, p5, or anything else). Absolutely no coding experience required!

Retro Computing

Program like it's 1980! You don't need a DeLorean to travel back in time. Instead, spend a couple of hours learning how to program in the most popular programming language of the 80s: BASIC! We'll start at the beginning by learning how to operate an 8-bit computer and culminate in making a small game. You'll leave with a greater understanding of our technological heritage along with tools and resources to write your own 8-bit programs.

CANCELED: Code Lab: Python

Due to circumstances beyond our control, this event has been canceled. We apologize for the inconvenience.

We will explore simple coding projects using the language Python on a Raspberry Pi. This will be a guided tutorial to learn the basics of Python though physical computing (lighting an LED with code), Minecraft, and using a graphics turtle to draw images. Feel free to bring your own Raspberry Pi board to work on if you prefer.

Basic typing skills are recommending for this workshop.  No prior programming experience is required.

Code Lab: Animation Using Processing

We will explore simple and advanced video animation techniques using the coding language Processing on a Raspberry Pi. This will be a guided tutorial to learn the basics of game creation with sound and video. Participants will need to have basic computing and typing skills, but no coding experience is necessary. Feel free to bring your own Raspberry Pi board to work on if you prefer.
