Author Event | Alan Paul: Brothers and Sisters: The Allman Brothers Band and the Inside Story of the Album that Defined the ‘70s

Alan Paul's new book, which focuses on the Allman Brothers smash hit album of the same name, also presents a broader cultural history of the era, covering stories of how the band rescues Jimmy Carter’s flailing presidential campaign, Gregg Allman’s marriage to Cher, and how the band’s success led to an eventual breakup. Martin Bandyke, formerly of ann arbor's 107one will host the event, which includes a signing with books for sale.

"Singing Them Off the Page" — Poetry Set to Music

For National Poetry Month, Laszlo Slomovits of the popular local duo Gemini, and widely published poet Jennifer Burd, present a program of a wide range of classic poems that Laszlo has set to music. Included are works by the ancient mystics, Rumi and Hafiz, of the American greats, Emily Dickinson and Robert Frost, as well as contemporary poets, Dan Gerber and Linda Nemec Foster. The program will also feature settings of Jennifer and Laszlo’s haiku and lyric poetry, accompanied by Laszlo on guitar and a variety of folk flutes, and by Jennifer on the bowed psaltery.

Timothy Monger State Park is a band from Ypsilanti, Michigan fronted by namesake, singer, and guitarist Timothy Monger. Tucked within their musical bouquet of melodic power pop and folk-rock are sprigs of jazz, psychedelia, and vintage soft rock. The six-piece group incorporates instruments like trumpet, violin, and flute into their layered arrangements which also place a strong emphasis on vocal harmonies.
