Night of Notable Authors

The Ann Arbor District Library, the Library of Michigan and the Library of Michigan Foundation are pleased to present this special event, Night Of Notable Authors, featuring 15 authors who were awarded the distinction of having their work selected as a Michigan Notable Book.

The program room of the Library will remain open after 6 pm for this special evening, which includes a panel discussion by 4 distinguished notable authors, followed by an elegant reception in the Library lobby with music, refreshments, a book signing and the chance to mingle with all 15 authors at this event.

Every year, the Library of Michigan selects up to twenty of the most notable books, either written by a Michigan resident or about Michigan or the Great Lakes. The selected books are honored in the year after their publication or copyright date. Each selected title speaks to our state's rich cultural, historical, and literary heritage and proves without a doubt that some of the greatest stories are found in the Great Lakes State.

The Night Of Notable Authors features:

6 – 7:30 pm Panel Discussion

Moderated by Anna Clark (A Detroit Anthology, a 2015 Michigan Notable Book). Panelists include:

Memoirist and True Crime Author Mardi Jo Link (two Michigan Notable Book titles, including Bootstrapper: From Broke To Badass On A Northern Michigan Farm, a 2014 Michigan Notable Book)

Kids! Submit Your Art To Be Juried for the Kids’ Art Fair

The Ann Arbor Street Art Fair, the Original will be accepting applications from young artists in grades 3-8 for the Kids’ Art Fair, held during the Townie Street Party, July 18th, 5:00-9:00pm. Drop-In Jury Sessions will take place at the Pittsfield Branch - You need to attend only one of these three sessions.

Interested young artists should arrive with 4 – 6 samples of their original artwork and be prepared to meet one-on-one with a pair of jurors for a brief time to discuss and show their art work.
Sessions are:
• Sunday April 24, 3–5 pm
• Wednesday, April 27, 5–7 pm
• Sunday, May 1, 1–3 pm

The Kids’ Art Fair is a unique opportunity for young artists to interact with the community and sell their original artwork at the Townie Street Party. In addition, this is a great chance for young artists to see the jury process at work and to interact with arts educators on a one-on-one basis.

The young artists receive individual attention by the Jurors and the positive feedback is often very empowering.

Young artists invited to exhibit at the Kids’ Art Fair will be notified by email mid-May. The selected artists will be able to sell their work under tents at the July 18th Townie Street Party, which takes place on N. University & Ingalls Mall between Thayer and Fletcher.

An Afternoon with Chef Mei Lin, Season 12 Top Chef Winner

Michigan native Chef Mei Lin will join us for a special event to talk about her culinary career and time on Top Chef. Now based in Los Angeles, she has been traveling, cooking, and percolating on what's next after winning Top Chef earlier this year.

Mei grew up working alongside her father at their family-owned-and-operated restaurant outside Detroit, where she learned the fundamentals of being a well-rounded cook and running a restaurant. Over the years, she has had the privilege of working for some of the most revered chefs in the industry such as Michael Symon (Roast), Marcus Samuelsson (C-House), Wolfgang Puck, and headed to Los Angeles to work with Michael Voltaggio at ink.
