Ryan Poe is a local farmer and the owner and operator of The Hungry Locavore weekly 'At Will' CSA share that runs year around. Traditionally CSA models revolve around one farm's products for a set amount of weeks whereas The Hungry Locavore offers produce from multiple farms and farm to table prepared foods in the weekly share offerings, and individuals can opt in or opt out of purchase each week. This project is all about building community and sustainability with a focus on consuming local food.

This year Jim DuFresne’s classic Isle Royale National Park: Foot Trails & Water Routes will celebrate its 40th year of continuous publication, an amazing achievement in the world of book publishing. The  “backpacker’s bible” for Isle Royale was released in 1983 and was the first detailed trail and paddling guide to an area in Michigan. Since then, DuFresne has gone on to write more than 20 outdoor guidebooks for a range of wild places, from Alaska’s Glacier Bay National Park to Michigan’s own Porcupine Mountains.

2024 is the first time in 221 years that the 17-year Brood XII and the 13-year Brood XIX will emerge simultaneously! We might not see many of these periodical cicadas in Michigan this year, so let's make our own!

This month's walk takes place at Ruthven Nature Area. Meet at Gallup Park Boat Launch off Geddes Road. Ground nesting bees can live in prairies, so this walk is not recommended for folks with bee sting allergies. The trail may be muddy, please wear appropriate footwear.
