Join local organization Natural Area Preservation to make your own nature journal out of recycled paper, then practice adding scientific observations and artistic renderings of what we see and find outdoors!

In partnership with Natural Area Preservation, take a short stroll guided by a NAP educator through the natural area near Traverwood. Collect items to inspire your block carving, then come back to the library to carve a block and print some simple notecards.

This event involves sharp carving tools and is intended for teens and adults.

Washtenaw Bird and Nature Alliance (formerly known as the Washtenaw Audubon Society) holds monthly meetings feature entertaining and informative speakers. The program kicks off with announcements of recent bird sightings and upcoming events. Past speaker topics have included: the impact of climate change on bird populations, birding around the world, butterflies, amphibians, reptiles, endangered species, bird banding, nature photography, and Great Lakes issues with emphasis on birds.

Join Jacco Gelderloos for a presentation on the birds and other wildlife of Cuba’s easternmost province during two trips in June 2022 and February 2024. This remote and under-birded area is ecologically rich and hosts many of the island’s endemic species, as well as a wide range of migrants.

Join Len Sander for an informative program on birding in Costa Rica. This Central American country, despite its small size, has one of the greatest biodiversities in Latin America, with 948 bird species, including seven endemics and 73 near-endemics. Len Sander is professor emeritus of physics and complex systems at the University of Michigan, a keen birder, and an avid photographer.

Join Natural Area Preservation and AADL staff for an informative nature walk through one of the city's natural areas, in conjunction with the Diversity in the Outdoors lecture series.

The walk will take place at Gallup Park (meet at Gallup Park Boat Launch).
