POSTPONED: Big Moon Live

This event requires a cloudless night sky! Due to the current forecast, we've determined that this event will not take place on Tuesday. We've rescheduled this event for Wednesday, April 26.

Amateur astronomer and astrophotographer Brian Ottum brings the moon to the Downtown Library! Using a telescope and the huge gallery screen in the Lobby, Brian will project an image of the moon – up-close and in real time.  Enjoy a brief talk about astronomy, and be sure to bring all your biggest moon questions!

Nature Walk with Natural Area Preservation @ Black Pond Woods Nature Area

Carved by receding glaciers, Black Pond is named for a small, vernal pond. Its dark brown water is colored by tannins and humic acids from decomposing leaf litter. Since there are no incoming springs or streams, the water in the pond is collected entirely from rainfall that drains into the basin. Join NAP and the Ann Arbor District Library for a crisp winter walk to learn about the nature area's three distinctive habitat types. And leave a little time in your schedule to visit the raptors at the adjacent Leslie Science and Nature Center!

Intro To Fly Tying

Fly tying is the process of using natural and synthetic materials to create realistic insect lures, or flies, for the purpose of fishing. But even if you aren't planning on hitting the river, the process can be enjoyable, artistic, and rewarding. Join us for an introductory session and tie your own flies.

Autumn Nature Walk with Natural Area Preservation @ Marshall Nature Area

Lace up your BOOts and join AADL and Natural Area Preservation for an autumn nature hike in the beautiful, wooded Marshall Nature Area. Featuring oaks, hickories, maples and beeches along gently rolling hills, this park is a great place to experience a variety of fall floral favorites and perhaps catch a glimpse of the tail end of some avian migration.

Meet in the parking lot off Dixboro Rd, north of Plymouth Rd (map: tinyurl.com/MarshallDixboro).

Nature Walk with Natural Area Preservation @ Bandemer Park

Join AADL for a nature walk with Natural Area Preservation! A patch of dry prairie can be found along the railroad tracks at Bandemer Park, where sparks from passing trains occasionally ignited wildfires that maintained this open habitat. It is now home to tall grasses and goldenrods.

Learn more about the habitats and diversity at Bandemer at a nature walk with NAP and AADL. We will meet at the meet at the parking lot at the end of Lake Shore Drive, off Main Street (map:tinyurl.com/BandemerLakeShore).
