Mrs. Emil Lorch Succumbs At 70
Was Wife Of Former U-M Architecture Dean
Mrs. Jemima A. Lorch, 70, wife of Prof.-Emeritus Emil Lorch, former dean of the University’s College of Architecture, died this morning in St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital after a long illness. She lived at 1023 S. Forest Ave.
Born on Sept. 1, 1880, at Gartley in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, she came to Chicago as a child with her parents, the late John and Jane Wans Elmslie
Mrs. Lorch attended Hyde Park High School in Chicago and the Armour Institute of Technology, and studied piano.
Active In Music Circles
Active in music circles here, she was once treasurer of the former Chamber Music Association and a patroness of Sigma Alpha Iota music sorority.
She was also a charter member and past-president of the Faculty Women’s Club.
She was married to Mr. Lorch on Aug. 22, 1906, in Chicago. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Ann Arbor, where they have lived since.
Other Survivors
Besides her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Roger Bailey of Salt Lake City, Utah, Mrs. George D. Welles, jr. of Toledo and Mrs. David W. Osler of Ann Arbor; one son, Richard E. Lorch of Lakewood, O.; and one granddaughter.
Also surviving are five sisters, the Misses Louise, Frances and Edith Elmslie, all of Chicago, Mrs. Lavina Dow of Omaha, Neb., and Mrs. Isabelle Miller of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and one brother, George Elmslie of Chicago.
Memorial services will be held at a date to be announced later. Friends are requested to omit flowers.
