Do you have something you want to design or print on a 3D printer? This open lab will provide access to the library's 3D printing resources including printers, filament, and design stations! Time will be allotted for printing larger items, as well as opportunities to ask questions about the library's 3D printers or troubleshoot your own.

Ann Arbor Creativity and Making Expo (AACME)

The Ann Arbor Creativity and Making Expo (AACME) is back and you're invited! Come celebrate the maker movement that ranges from traditional technologies like weaving all the way to our future in robotics! Our keynote speaker this year is designer, artist, and maker Sophy Wong, who will be speaking on the intersection of technology and clothing design. Enjoy hands-on demos from local maker spaces, learn about ham radio, solder an LED badge, see an upholstery demonstration, use our heat press, and so much more!

AACME | Sophy Wong Speaks on Design and Technology

Sophy Wong is a designer, costumer, and maker creating artistic wearable technology. Using digital fabrication techniques like 3D printing and laser cutting, her work highlights the intersection of technology and design for the human body. Sophy has been featured by Adam Savage's Tested.com, Nerdist, Hackaday, Make: Magazine, and Adafruit. Her book, Wearable Tech Projects, is a compilation of 30 tutorials and articles about DIY wearable tech. Sophy documents her work online at sophywong.com.

Friday Night AI | AI and the Future of Creative Expressions

We’ve all heard about ChatGPT and DALL-E -- along with many other AI tools, they are already in use by writers and designers alike to streamline workflows, spark inspiration, and push creative boundaries. How does AI redefine the traditional boundaries of creativity in various domains such as art, music, literature, and design? Can AI truly be considered a creative entity, or does it merely mimic human creativity? And how can AI and human creatives collaborate effectively to enhance the creative process and produce innovative outcomes?

Code Lab: Turtle Logo

Learn how to draw beautiful and complex images with simple commands from the programming language Logo. We will be drawing lots of pictures on screen and explore basic coding concepts along the way.

As some typing is involved with this program, basic keyboard skills are necessary.
