Letterpress Open Lab

Letterpress is the traditional process of printing by hand using moveable type. This lab will feature a short guided activity to get familiar with assembling & printing a letterpress project. Participants will be able to use wood type, handset lead type and ornaments, and learn how to hand ink and print on a Vandercook cylinder press. If you like, stay longer to work on a more involved project.

New to letterpress? Please arrive at the start of the program for a 20-minute demonstration of how to use our equipment.

LEGO Letterpress

Build your own small design out of LEGO and then pull a print of it using our letterpress printing presses.

Note: No equipment from our Open Letterpress Labs will be accessible during this event. There will only be LEGO Letterpress happening.

Zine Workshop with Steve Hughes

Zines are self-made little magazines or booklets that can be about absolutely anything! They can be made using a single sheet of paper or printed more professionally. Zines can include writing, comics, collage, art, or anything you can think of. In this workshop, you'll be able to make your own zine and copy and share it with others. You are also welcome to bring a recent issue of your zine to show off. Presented by zine maker Steve Hughes, who has published Stupor since 1995.

Junk Journaling

Junk Journaling: Scrapbooking's messier little sibling.

The point of a Junk Journal is to fill a journal with little things that make you happy! Unlike scrapbooking, the final product isn't for others to look at in the future–it's all about making something, right now, with what you have on hand. Of course, if you love what you've made, there's nothing stopping you from showing it off!
