Join us for an evening with five local authors doing short readings from their published works. Have a chat with an author or buy a copy of their book during the event!
We'll kick off the evening with authors from two books published by the library's Fifth Avenue Press publishing imprint: Bring Your Words: A Writers' Community Anthology by Kathryn Orwig and Dali, Dalai by Rick Solomon.
Meet the authors:
Novels are all about characters we love, but how do you create a protagonist that readers will want to spend a whole novel with? In this workshop, Bethany Neal and Alex Kourvo will show you how to craft relatable characters from the ground up that are flawed, lovable, and as real as the people we know.
Come with questions, a work in progress, or an empty notebook. All writers are welcome in this casual, supportive environment.
Authors Bethany Neal and Alex Kourvo will be on hand to answer questions and give encouragement. Bethany and Alex will also provide private, one-on-one critiques if you choose to have them read your work. Sharing your writing with other attendees is not required and is completely voluntary.
Did you ever read a book and wonder how the author wrote it? There are valuable writing lessons to be learned from reading our favorite novels. In this workshop, Alex Kourvo and Bethany Neal will share the secrets of reading like a writer by looking into character, decoding plot, and understanding why writers make the choices they do.

Characters have to talk to each other, so why is fictional dialogue often so flat on the page? In this workshop, Bethany Neal and Alex Kourvo will help you add life to your characters’ words and hone the point of view so those words are distinctly their own.
