The Foundations of Self-Publishing

Do you have a desire to write your own novel, but don't quite know where to get started? Local author Emlyn Chand is the founder and president of Novel Publicity, a company that provides marketing, editing, and design services for all authors, regardless of their paths to publication.

During this session she will provide insight into how to hone your writing craft, make writing a priority, navigate self-publishing, identify and promote your author brand, and stand out in a crowded market.

Emlyn has published fiction across multiple genres and writes for youth to adult audiences. Emlyn’s first novel, Farsighted, won the prestigious Writer’s Digest Self-Published Novel of the Year award in 2012 for the YA category. The majority of her books have been published under her pseudonym Emlyn Chand, but she has recently started releasing books in her legal name, Melissa Storm.

Totems, Trees, and Birds

This dual painting exhibit by Joyce Tinkham and Betsy Beckerman features thirty-five works in a variety of media, including watercolor, acrylic on canvas, mixed media on wood, and collage.

Joyce Tinkham is an award-winning artist, and a graduate of the University of of Michigan School of Art & Design. Her work features pieces in acrylic paint on canvas and watercolors. Joyce Tinkham's heritage is Nisga'a Native American, a factor that, as she puts it, "creeps into my work. "My paintings sometimes have Native American themes, and sometimes American native designs."

Betsy Beckerman is a musician and an artist. She features watercolors, mixed media on wood and collage in this show. Most pieces have nature themes or depictions of birds.

Betsy and Joyce are friends and are in two art groups together: AAWA and SaturdayforArt. Both have previously had solo shows at the AADL and with similar tastes and themes decided to mount this collaborative show.

Tiny Expo: Ann Arbor's biggest little indie arts & craft fair — Downtown, December 13th!

Ann Arbor's biggest little indie arts & craft fair is back! After a few years of hopping around to different locales, Tiny Expo will land at the Downtown AADL this December 13th, 11am—5:30pm!

Just what IS Tiny Expo? It's a fun local, and handmade shopping experience that began with a small group of artists in 2010. As the initial group of creative folks banded together to hold a fun, informal little fair, expo-goers responded, and the show grew just a teeny bit each year. Finding a location that could fit everyone was a perennial challenge, though, and so Tiny Expo jumped around town — from Kerrytown to Felch Street and back again.

This year, the Downtown Library will host Tiny Expo's marvelous collection of local indie artists and crafters, including a few audience favorites from past Tiny Expo editions! We'll be announcing the final artist roster in mid November, but if you or an artist you know might be a good fit, you can apply here to be a part of things!

So, get excited, get ready, and mark your calendar — for the biggest little indie arts and craft fair, this December!

An Evening with The Boogie Woogie Babies!

Get the best of all their shows - from the Andrews Sisters to the McGuire Sisters to the Cookies and the Chiffons! A high-energy show that features music from the Big Band era through 1980s, from the Great American Songbook to Broadway to girl group pop!

Midwest audiences rave about the vocal harmonies and talents of the Boogie Woogie Babies! This nationally touring group features three of Michigan’s finest singers: Mary Rademacher, Barbara Wisse, and Francesca Amari, with premiere pianist Mark Kahny.
