Join a cohort of undergraduate students from University of Michigan as they share musical compositions inspired by images from the AADL Archives. Each student selected one image to inspire them to score a piece of music. View the selected images and listen to each of these original pieces of music created in the fall of 2022. 

This event is in conjunction with the Scoring the Archive Exhibit on display in the Downtown Lower Level from December 8–January 31.

If you want to get started learning about synthesizers, this is the event for you. North Coast Modular Collective will explain how to get started producing with hardware synthesizers, in a digital audio workstation, or with modular synthesizers. You can also connect with the local community of electronic musicians and instrument makers.

Join Musique Noire, the award-winning, women-led Motor City string quartet, for a live concert of their unique world fusion arrangements, incorporating musical elements of Spain, Africa, India, and the Middle East, as well as jazz, blues, and funk. Musique Noire is led by violinist and flutist Michelle May, a 2018 Detroit Kresge Artist Fellow.

Join University of Michigan faculty member Garrett Schumann and UK-based choir conductor Joseph McHardy for a thrilling exploration of the life and music of Afro-Portuguese Renaissance composer Vicente Lusitano. This presentation will feature video and audio of McHardy’s world-class performances of Lusitano’s compositions recorded earlier this summer, alongside discussion of the pair’s collaborative research uncovering new details of Lusitano’s music and biography.
