Vetiver intrigues fragrance enthusiasts and scientists alike. Perfume lovers enjoy Vetiver’s green, rooty and woody aromas, which are used to express a multitude of olfactory emotions. Scientists are compelled by Vetiver research, discovering new molecules that comprise Vetiver’s scent as they shape perfumery’s future in the lab.

Washtenaw Bird & Nature Alliance Talk

Washtenaw Bird and Nature Alliance (formerly known as the Washtenaw Audubon Society) holds monthly meetings feature entertaining and informative speakers. The program kicks off with announcements of recent bird sightings and upcoming events. Past speaker topics have included: the impact of climate change on bird populations, birding around the world, butterflies, amphibians, reptiles, endangered species, bird banding, nature photography, and Great Lakes issues with emphasis on birds.

Culinary Historians | Popcorn as a Food, a Crop, and a Business

Amaizin’ Pop LLC is an Ann Arbor-area seed company that develops new, improved strains of the popcorn plant and also wholesales popcorn to a dozen local retail outlets. Today, corn hybrids pioneered by Amaizin’ Pop are being grown in the US, Brazil, Hungary, Russia, Egypt, Turkey, Greece, South Africa, and India. In this presentation, owner/operator Dr. Charles Sing will explain the biology of the popcorn plant, describe his personal experiences developing hybrids, and outline how popcorn is grown, processed, and distributed to consumers.
