Ann Arbor Women Artists is a non-profit organization of approximately 330+ women and men with connections to Ann Arbor, ranging from beginning to professional artists. The purpose of the AAWA is to stimulate creative expression and sharing among its members in order to continually raise the quality of the art produced.

Each calendar year the AAWA holds two or three juried shows. A juror is invited to select from a large group of submissions a final show that is a reflection of the body of work produced by the membership which ranges from beginning to professional artist.

For this project, participants will be using traditional bookmaking techniques and fun recycling methods to create unique works of art. Use discarded books and other materials to make blackout poetry pages to incorporate into your book's theme. Then learn about the simple construction behind the accordion book, including how to make pockets and tip in pages to make your truly personal artist's book.

Create short stop motion movies using paper, clay, and LEGO figures. When you're done, email yourself your finished movie!

This workshop uses an art-based methodology called Paper Prayers, which are expressions of hope and well-being. Paper Prayers have been used in South Africa for the past 20 years to help people respond to trauma around HIV, gender-based violence, conflict, and a range of other social issues.
