Día de la Familia Latina

Join us for this annual Latino-focused family event and health fair!

This year’s Día de la Familia (Family Day) features an opportunity to contribute to a mural painting led by muralist Hector Trujillo. Health information addressing mental, physical, and social issues in the Latino/a community with a talk in Spanish led by Dr. Mikel Llanes.

Letterpress Lab

Our weekly Letterpress Lab introduces the process and materials for printing by hand with wood type on a selection of antique printing presses, including a Vandercook cylinder proof press.

We'll show you the basics and help get you started on projects, and together, explore more advanced printing techniques with special guests.

No experience necessary.

All supplies provided.

AADL staff will show you the basics and we’ll explore more advanced printing techniques with special guests. No prior experience necessary. Supplies are provided. You can return every Wednesday to work on multi-week projects. This program involves direct handling of lead-based type and is therefore not suitable for small children.

Bob Ross Birthday Paint-Along

October 29th is Bob Ross's birthday. Paint a happy little fall scene and celebrate the birthday of everyone's favorite permed public television art instructor. All supplies are provided, although participants may want to bring an apron or old t-shirt for painting.

Starting at 9am on October 29th, advance tickets for lobby seating will be available at the tools desk in the lobby of the downtown library. One ticket per person, please.

Sustainable Printing in the Age of the Anthropocene

Olivia Arau-McSweeney, artist and student at the Penny Stamps School of Art and Design at U–M, discusses and demonstrates non-toxic and sustainable techniques for printmaking and analog photography.

This event is in partnership with the Penny Stamps School of Art and Design at the University of Michigan. Olivia Arau-McSweeney's art will be on view as part of the 2019 Stamps Senior Show from April 12th-May 4th at the Stamps Gallery (201 Division St.)
