Vermiculture with Starr Valley Farms | Gardening & DIY Fest

Join Advanced Master Gardener and Master Composter Jesse Raudenbush as he introduces us to the Red Wiggler composting worm (E. Fetida). We'll learn about some of their very basic needs as well as how to start a simple vermicomposting system.

This event is just one part of our 3rd Annual Gardening & DIY Fest on Saturday, May 18 from 11:00-5:00 PM.  In addition to the workshops there will be vendors selling handmade wares, plants, fresh flowers, body care and more!

Liminal Spaces: Art by Payton Cook

Liminal moments occur when a person is between two spaces. This exhibition of work by local artist Payton Cook explores the theme of liminality: the moment between inside and outside, between being home and leaving home, between life and final breath. Liminality addresses the past and stands at the threshold the future. It is the feeling of not knowing what lies ahead as a door closes on the past.

Ann Arbor Women Artists Spring 2019 Juried Show

Ann Arbor Women Artists is a non-profit organization of approximately 330+ women and men with connections to Ann Arbor, ranging from beginning to professional artists. The purpose of the AAWA is to stimulate creative expression and sharing among its members in order to continually raise the quality of the art produced.

Each calendar year the AAWA holds two or three juried shows. A juror is invited to select from a large group of submissions a final show that is a reflection of the body of work produced by the membership which ranges from beginning to professional artist.

Crocheted Beaded Edge Workshop

Learn how to crochet with thread & beads to make a lovely decorative edge for a pin cushion or small sachet. Once you have the skill down you could also add crochet beaded edges to clothing in the future. This is a detailed project and it will take the entire time to complete. Previous crochet experience is required as this is an intermediate project using a very small hook. All supplies provided! Local crafter, Beth Battey, returns for this workshop. 

Nålbinding - Ancient Fiber Arts Craft

Local crafter Beth Battey returns to introduce us to "Nålbinding - Danish: literally "binding with a needle" or "needle-binding." Nålbinding is an ancient, but still practiced, fabric creation technique that predates both knitting and crochet.  The oldest samples date from over 4000-8000 years ago and have been found all over the world from many different cultures.  To create this durable, stretchy, and dense cloth, a single blunt large-eyed needle, often made of wood or bone, is used while tens

National Library Week | Emerging Writers Presents: Local Writers LIVE

Join us for an evening with six, local published authors doing short readings from their books, and have a chance to chat and buy their books too!

We'll kick off the evening with readings by two authors with books published with the library's Fifth Avenue Press imprint: Linda Jeffries with the adult fiction novel, "We Thought We Knew You" and V.W. Shurtliff with the Teen novel, "Setting the Record Straight".
