Spices & Herbs: The Variety of Life with Keegan Rodgers

Keegan C. Rodgers, Head Baker at the People's Food Co-Op, will lead an interactive & lively talk on the history, processing, uses & chemical reactions of spices & herbs in baking. Discussion will also include a review of some popular & unusual flavor combinations. Other items used in baking such as baking soda, baking powder & cream of tartar will also be reviewed. Some spices & herbs which may be discussed include all spice, basil, cayenne, cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, rosemary, salts & thyme. Attendees will leave with a new perspective of spices and literature to take home.

Just be sure they are pre-washed and 100% cotton for the best results! We will have cotton handkerchiefs for those who don't bring their own fabric.

Emerging Writers Presents: Local Writers LIVE

Join us for an evening with five local authors doing short readings from their published books, and have a chance to chat and buy their books too!

We'll kick off the evening with readings by two authors with books published with the library's Fifth Avenue Press imprint: Brad and Kristin Northrop with their picture book, Akeina the Crocodile and Tracy Gallup with her picture book, Paint the Night.

Musicians San, Emily and Brian present a program of songs from classic Broadway musicals such as Oklahoma, The Sound of Music, Fiddler on the Roof, The Fantasticks, Follies, Bridges of Madison County and more.

San is one half of the duo, Gemini, his daughter Emily graduated with a minor in musical theatre from EMU and Brian Brill is an Emmy Award winning composer and pianist from Chelsea.
